Sonya first came to our school with her mother and siblings when she was just 10 years old. She has been in classes every opportunity for more than six years running! Classmates and masters alike have been known to call her Miss Tryhard because she often puts 100% effort into not just her sessions as a student or a leader, but also in her practice outside of the school.
Since obtaining her black belt in Tang Soo Do in May 2023 and also a black belt rank for haidong gumdo in Dec 2023, she has found a passion for teaching and helping with daily school duties. Sonya has been the lead instructor for the Chisholm Community Education classes and an intro session leader for the Tang Soo Do program since August 2023.
In August of 2024, Sonya has made a commitment to become a U.S. Marine via the delayed entry program. She has a bright future ahead utilizing the skills she's learned with us over the years! She will be training hard for her next ranks up until the time she leaves for boot camp, and we hope she visits and comes back to us after her initial enlistment.
