Sonya first came to our school with her mother and siblings when she was just 10 years old. She has been in classes nearly every opportunity for more than seven years! Classmates and masters alike have been known to call her Miss Tryhard because she often puts 100% effort into not just her sessions as a student or a leader, but also in her practice outside of the school.
Since obtaining her black belt in Tang Soo Do in May 2023 and also a black belt rank for haidong gumdo in Dec 2023, she has found a passion for teaching and helping with daily school duties. Sonya has been the lead instructor for the Chisholm Community Education classes, a Tiny Tiger teacher, and an introduction session leader for our Tang Soo Do programs since August 2023.
In October of 2025, Sonya became a certified instructor for our Tang Soo Do programs through the World Tang Soo Do Association- having met and exceeding the requirements to do so. She has a bright future ahead utilizing the skills she's learned with us over the years! Whatever her future brings, we are sure that martial arts- especially Tang Soo Do- will be a part of it.
