Sonya first came to our school with her mother and siblings when she was just 10 years old. For approximatley half her life, she has attended classes at nearly every opportunity! Classmates and masters alike have come to know her as Miss Tryhard because she gives 100% effort—not only during her training as a student and leader, but also in her practice outside the school.
Since earning her black belt in Tang Soo Do in May 2023 and her black belt rank in Haidong Gumdo in December 2023, Sonya has developed a passion for teaching and helping with the school's daily operations. She has served as the lead instructor for Chisholm Community Education classes, a Tiny Tiger teacher, and a leader for introductory Tang Soo Do sessions since August 2023.
In October 2025, Sonya became a certified instructor for our Tang Soo Do programs through the World Tang Soo Do Association, having met—and exceeded—the requirements to earn her certification.
Sonya has a bright future ahead, and she continues to build on the skills she has developed through years of martial arts training. Whatever her future brings, we are confident that martial arts—and especially Tang Soo Do—will remain an important part of her life.
